Terms of Service

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account. Accounts are for a single human; do not share one account across multiple people. Team and collaboration features let you invite additional people, and each person needs their own account and seat where a plan requires it.

Notify us promptly at security@storyhelm.com if you suspect unauthorized access. You must provide accurate account information and keep it current. We may refuse, suspend, or reclaim any account or username at our reasonable discretion to protect the service or comply with law.

StoryHelm is an AI manuscript-intelligence platform for indie series authors. It reads and analyzes your manuscript, builds and checks your canon and continuity across a series, and returns automated findings and reports. It performs a 41-pass analysis across 7 workflows, run by a multi-agent system powered by Claude from Anthropic, PBC.

StoryHelm reads and analyzes your work. It does not write your prose for you. You author the story; StoryHelm helps make sure it holds together. When you run an analysis or translation, the relevant portion of your manuscript is sent to our servers and onward to Anthropic, PBC's Claude API to produce the analysis. Outputs are generated by automated systems and may be incomplete or imperfect (see Section 6).

As between you and StoryHelm, you retain one hundred percent of the copyright and all other rights in the manuscripts, notes, canon, and other content you create or upload ("Your Content"). StoryHelm claims no ownership of Your Content.

To operate the service, you grant StoryHelm a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, and revocable license to host, store, back up, process, transmit, display, and create derived analysis from Your Content, including transmitting it to the subprocessors that make the service work (such as Anthropic, PBC for AI analysis and our cloud host). This license exists solely so we can provide, secure, and improve the service for you, and it ends when you delete the content or close your account, subject to routine backups and our retention schedule. You can review who processes your data in our Subprocessors list.

We do not sell Your Content, and neither StoryHelm nor its AI provider trains any model on Your Content. Anthropic, PBC's commercial API does not train on inputs or outputs by default. You own the analysis output that StoryHelm returns to you, subject to these terms and to any rights of third parties in underlying source material.

StoryHelm's findings, scores, continuity checks, summaries, translations, and other outputs are produced by automated AI systems. They may contain errors, omissions, or misjudgments, and they may miss real issues or flag issues that are not real. Outputs are informational only. They are not professional, legal, editorial, or publishing advice, and they are not a substitute for your own judgment or that of a qualified human editor.

You remain solely responsible for your book, including its content, accuracy, originality, and lawfulness, and for any decision you make based on StoryHelm's outputs. Any reference in the product or our materials to "human-authored" or comparable quality is aspirational and is not a warranty.

StoryHelm offers paid subscription plans and one-time purchases. The current plans are Writer, Author, Series, Studio. We also offer a $99 one-time Manuscript Audit and a Translation Studio (one-time, per language). New customers can start with a 14-day free trial, no credit card required. Current prices and what each plan includes are shown on our pricing page.

Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price for that plan, using your payment method on file, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and you keep access until then. We do not provide prorated refunds for the unused portion of a period except where required by law or stated in our Refund & Cancellation policy.

Some features use credits. Credits are consumed when you run analysis and similar AI operations, and once consumed they are non-refundable. Prices are exclusive of taxes; you are responsible for any applicable sales, use, VAT, or similar taxes. If we change a recurring price, we will give you advance notice before it takes effect on your next renewal, and your continued use after that date is acceptance of the new price. Refunds and cancellations are governed by our Refund & Cancellation policy. Billing questions can go to billing@storyhelm.com.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, StoryHelm and its officers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or manuscripts, arising out of or related to your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or related to the service or these terms will not exceed the total fees you paid to StoryHelm for the service in the twelve months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including, where they apply, your statutory consumer rights.

You may stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, if required by law, or to protect the service or other users.

On termination, your right to use the service ends. We provide a 30-day grace period after termination during which you can export Your Content before it is deleted in the ordinary course, subject to our retention schedule and backups. Provisions that by their nature should survive, including your content ownership, the license you granted us to the extent needed to wind down, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution, survive termination.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where mandatory local consumer law provides otherwise.

Informal resolution first: before filing any formal claim, you agree to contact us at legal@storyhelm.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve the dispute in good faith.

Binding arbitration and class-action waiver: if we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you and StoryHelm agree that disputes will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration seated in the State of Delaware, United States, rather than in court, and that any claim will be brought only in an individual capacity and not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action. You may opt out of arbitration by notifying us in writing within 30 days of first accepting these terms.

Carve-outs: either party may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court, and either party may seek injunctive relief to protect its intellectual property. If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer laws or your right to bring or defend proceedings in the courts of your home country, and the arbitration and class-waiver terms apply only to the extent permitted by the law that applies to you.
